Short intro

The Faust Overture is a concert overture by German composer Richard Wagner. Wagner originally composed it between 1839 and 1840, intending it to be the first movement of a Faust Symphony based on the play Faust by German playwright Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Realizing that he would not finish the planned symphony, Wagner revised the piece between 1843 and 1844, incorporating ideas from the other planned movements, and creating instead a single-movement concert overture. He made a final revision in. A Faust Overture Eine Faust-Ouvertüre - for orchestra Written by Richard Wagner in 1840 Performed by the London Festival Orchestra, conducted by Julian. The Liszt and Wagner items are also given satisfying performances. The provincial orchestra plays well enough, though it's hardly a world-class ensemble. The sound is good, if not quite as remarkable as the remastering of the Bruckner. Its a rather later traversal, recorded with the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra in April 1972. In that version the mens voices of the BBC Northern Singers take part and the soloist is John Mitchinson BBCL4118. I think that version may now be deleted
