Short intro
Franz Danzi was not the creator of the wind quintet, which emerged out of various earlier forms of wind ensemble music and was crystallized by Beethoven's Czech contemporary Antoine Reicha. Danzi, an Italian-born associate of both Mozart and Beethoven, was inspired to take up the genre by the works of Reicha, which are a lot more Beethovenian in their harmonies and in their general level of seriousness. The nine wind quintets and three quintets for piano and winds recorded here are, in the main, genial and gentle works. They were composed in the early 1820s. Album 2000 12 Songs. Danzi, Franz Composer, Albert Schweitzer Quintet Performer Format: Audio CD. 0 out of 5 stars 1 rating. Having already recorded the most significant body of wind quintet music ever-the complete Reicha quintets-the Albert Schweitzer ensemble now approaches the smaller body of Danzi's work. Danzi's quintets are smaller and slighter than Reicha's, but they have good tunes scattered throughout and they use the woodwinds with great ingenuity. Listen free to Franz Danzi Wind Quintets I.
