Short intro
Show Me Your Tears is the sixth and final studio album to be released to date by Frank Black and the Catholics. Released in September 2003 by SpinART in the US and Cooking Vinyl in the UK, the album employs a wide range of guests, including piano and an arrangement by maverick composer Van Dyke Parks on the final track. Within months of the album's release, it was announced that Black would be participating in a Pixies reunion, and since that time, the Catholics have effectively been defunct. Hearing that Frank Black's Show Me Your Tears is an angry record that was inspired by his work in therapy conjures up visions of pathetically self-absorbed diary rock along the lines of Can I Borrow a Feeling, the album that The Simpsons' Kirk Van Houten wrote upon divorcing his wife, Louann. Fortunately, such worries are unfounded. While Show Me Your Tears is the most singersongwriterly album of Black's solo career, it's also an engaging and often funny collection of songs that rivals his most recent creative peak, Dog in the Sand. Frank Black and the Catholics have created another great album, with production assistance by Stan Ridgeway and some of his muscical attributes. The album goes a long way and is clearly a favorite in my Frank Black collection. Eveything flows with style, good lyrics, great rhythm and just good music all around Will enjoy. If you get the chance to see Frank Black and the Catholics on their current tour ongoing in the UK Oct 2003 then dont pass it up. Ive just seen them perform a sweaty but excellent set made up of about half this album, and some other stuff, including the inevitable Pixies tunes. Absolutely brilliant. Black's fourth album in two and a half years features 13 new tracks and appearances from some of his usual cohorts S. Not unlike Wilcos Being There, Show Me Your Tears gives classic rock lovers a new album to celebrate - an album to drink by while mourning the fact that most aging rock icons rarely supply anything this raucous anymore.
