The situation comedy, a staple of the NBC Red Network for the show's entire run and one of the most popular and enduring radio series of its time, ran as a stand-alone series from 1935 to 1956, and then continued as a short-form series as part of the weekend Monitor from 1957 to 1959. The title characters were created and portrayed by Jim and Marian Jordan, a real-life husband and wife team that had been working in radio since the 1920s. From the 1941 movie, Look Who's Laughing, Fibber McGee played by that great radio comedian Jim Jordan, opens the infamous Hall Closet. 63 Episodes The Fibber McGee & Molly Show, one of the longest-running radio sitcoms, premiered on NBC Radio Network in 1935, remaining popular until its demise in 1959, long after radio had ceased to be the dominant form of American household entertainment. Fibber's opening the closet and everything falling out was a long-running joke on the radio program. While the sounds heard on the air which represented the closet falling out were actually done by a sound effects man, the many listeners wanted a visual picture of it.
