Faith Hope and Charity was the name of a vocal group from Tampa, Florida. They are best known for their 1975 hit, To Each His Own. They were also an in-demand group of session singers in New York studios during the 1970s. Founding members of the group were Zulema Cusseaux, Brenda Hilliard and Al Bailey. Originally a trio called the Lovelles, when they met record producer, Van McCoy, and were signed to a recording contract by Maxwell Records, the group's name was changed to Faith, Hope and Charity. Faith, Hope & Charity is the name of the group and the album, but the auteur of this 1975 LP is Van McCoy, the soul songwriter, producer, and arranger who was riding high that year on the strength of his single The Hustle. That single helped usher in the golden age of disco and while Faith, Hope & Charity - the eponymous debut from the Florida trio - wasn't written to capitalize on the success of McCoy's number one hit, it certainly comes from the same place, balancing a thick four-on-the-floor thump with lush strings and harmonies. Faith Hope and Charity were a three piece girl band managed by Tom Watkins that featured Dani Behr of The Word and Sally Ann Marsh of Bodger and Badger fame. The idea of the band was to create a female Bros, which was another of Tom's clients and each girl was assigned one of the names that is Faith, Hope or Charity. However the band was never a success, whilst the debut single 'Battle Of The Sexes' was a minor hit in 1990, the follow up did not chart and the band split soon afterwards.
