Short intro
The music on this almost entirely previously unreleased two-CD set features the Eureka Brass Band at three different rehearsals in 1956. While disc one mostly has complete performances by the ensemble which includes such notable New Orleans players as trumpeters Percy Humphrey and Kid Sheik Cola and tenorman Emanuel Paul, the second disc is just for fanatics and completists. The Eureka Rehearsal - The Eureka Brass Band. The first EBB was a local brass band organized in the town of Lake Charles, Louisiana around 1881. It is difficult to find any reference to the group after the 1890s and they are assumed to have disbanded. Listening to these primitive performances, it is easy to imagine that this is how jazz sounded 50-55 years earlier when it was first being formed.
