After his arrival in America, he had vowed to write only film scores until Hitlers defeat. This concerto was the first work he composed after V-E Day, finishing it in 1945, though it wasnt premiered until February 1947 in St. Louis by Jascha Heifetz, with Vladimir Golschmann conducting.
