Ensiferum - From Afar review: From Afar might not be as mind-blowing as Ensiferums self titled was, nor is it as catchy and easy-to-get-into as Victory Songs, but what it is, is a superbly composed and musically near flawless folk metal album. Review Summary: From Afar might not be as mind-blowing as Ensiferums self titled was, nor is it as catchy and easy-to-get-into as Victory Songs, but what it is, is a superbly composed and musically near flawless folk metal album. Ensiferum has had a very successful career. They started out in 1995, released their critically acclaimed self titled album in 2001 and have been on top of the so called Viking metal sub-genre from there on. From Afar is the fourth album by a folk metal band Ensiferum, and in my opinion it's a very solid album. It has a somewhat different style to their previous three. There are elements of all of the previous albums, as well as something new for the ears. Although their debut album is my favourite of theirs, I'd say this album is an extremely close second, ranging from gentle acoustic songs like By The Dividing Stream, to fast-paced headbanging songs such as Twilight Tavern, to lengthy epics such as The Longest Journey.
