Short intro
Ten Bloody Marys & Ten How's Your Fathers is an Elvis Costello and the Attractions album comprising tracks not previously released on albums. It is largely made up of B-sides, but features three previously unreleased recordings. It was released only in the UK, initially only on cassette, though later in other formats. Its track listing is very similar to that of the North America-released album Taking Liberties the differences are that on the latter, the tracks Watching The Detectives, Radio. Given Elvis Costello's stunningly great songwriting talents, this rarities platter is better than the primary album releases by most bands. This is an excellent record, highly recommended if Taking Liberties is not available. Other review sources state that this album's arrangements are different from those of Taking Liberties, but this reviewer hears no difference here. Four albums in might seem like a weird time to release and odds-and-sods collection, Elvis Costello already had a decent back log of singles and B-sides that hadnt seen release on LP, including signature songs like Watching the Detectives and Whats So Funny Bout Peace Love and Understanding. Yet other songs Girls Talk had been hits for other artists.
