Ella and Louis Again is a studio album by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, released in 1957 on Verve Records. It is the sequel to their 1956 album, Ella and Louis. In contrast to their previous collaboration, this album features seven solo vocal tracks by either Armstrong or Fitzgerald amongst its dozen duet tracks. It was reissued as part of a two-compact disc set in 1995, and in The Complete Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong on Verve in 1997. It was recorded at Capitol Studios. Recorded in 1957, Ella & Louis Again re-teams Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong after the success of their first album and a popular series of concerts at the Hollywood Bowl the previous year. Stylistically, Fitzgerald and Armstrong had very different histories he started out in Dixieland before branching out into classic jazz and swing, whereas Fitzgerald started out as a swing-oriented big-band vocalist before becoming an expert bebopper. Seven selections find either Fitzgerald or Armstrong singing without the other, although they're together more often than not on this fine set. Track Listing. Their Porgy & Bess album followed soon after, as did Ella and Louis Again all of it collected on The Complete Ella and Louis on Verve. The alchemy between the two giants is a marvel in the annals of American song. They take a simple approach that essentially cant go wrong: beautiful expressive standards, uncluttered arrangements, virtuoso small-group. i don't know why but whenever i hear louis armstrong i think of post apocalyptic environments and how much we'll regret what we did to earth.
