The Edwin Hawkins Singers were a trailblazing force in modern gospel music. Hawkins drew on the finest soloists from throughout the Bay Area to build a 50-member Grammy winning ensemble that blended traditional choir singing with contemporary R&B production. The group is best known for the 1969 classic "Oh Happy Day", one of the biggest gospel hits of all time and a major pop radio smash as well.
