Fiona Sedgwick was one of the original empty celebrities, the beautiful, useless people who seem to be famous for being famous. How fitting, then, that she would become Justin Moyers preferred alter-ego, as he delivers a lacerating, dance-beat-driven critique of celebrities like Mary-Kate Olsen, Angelina Jolie, and Rob Lowe. Its a good question, and maybe even a statement of intent, because this album is all about plasticity and emptiness. But its also unusually gentle and contemplative. Mostly Moyer tears down his targets with a ferocity that seems uncalled for, given their flimsiness. Claiming to be the transgendered reincarnation of a vacuous Andy Warhol Superstar, Moyer delves into the celebrity mind on third album Things Are Getting Sinister and Sinisterer. In this shiny, erratic collection of songs named for famous people, Moyer alternately points furious fingers and shrugs his sequin-clad shoulders. Album opener Sissy Spacek leans on the bass while Edie barks about pigs blood. Angelina Jolie talks of babies and dismantling the first-world identity, while BambiG. Bush is fittingly slow to open before it completely explodes. Get the Tempo of the tracks from Things Are Getting Sinister And Sinisterer 2008 by Edie Sedgwick. Angelina Jolie, 03:14. Edie Sedgwick II, 04:32. Now playing . Justin Moyers transgender antics as Edie Sedgwick are enjoyable bursts of DIY post-punk-for about two songs. Although Moyers art-punk pedigree is beyond reproach El Guapo, Supersystem, Antelope, his solo work is basically a one-note affair. Things Are Getting Sinister and Sinisterer is essentially a collection of cleverly titled songs-most are named after celebrities or movies-that all sound the same. Its telling that even though album closer Edie Sedgwick II sounds like a forgotten blip from 90s alt-rock radio, the fact that it varies from Moyers standard recipe makes it the most refreshing thing on the album.
