Short intro
Song: Spirit Of Love Artist: Eddie Palmieri Album: Lucumi, Macumba, Voodoo Year: Palmieri born December 15, 1936 is a Grammy Award-winning pianist, bandleader, musician, and composer of Puerto Rican ancestry. He is the founder of the bands La Perfecta, La Perfecta II, and Harlem River Drive. Palmieri's parents moved to New York from Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 1926, and settled in the South Bronx, a largely Jewish neighborhood. There, he and his elder brother, Charlie Palmieri, were born. He accompanied Charlie and participated in many talent contests when he was eight years old. Latin infused Eddie Palmieri joints from the 1978 album Lucumi, Macumba, Voodoo get the official, remastered reissue treatment. Born in New York to Puerto Rican parents, multi Grammy award winner Palmieri is a stratospheric salsa master. In an era dominated by disco, Spirit Of Love took to the dancefloor, drawing on the glamour and magnetism of the late 70s. Palmieris distinctive style still weaves its way through though, melding Afro-Caribbean rhythms with modern jazz. Spirit Of Love is full to the brim with striking vocals, cow bells and big horn sections, blended with psychedelic guitars that riff off against clavinet touches and expressive Montunos melodies. Spirit of Love, first released as a single in 1978, certainly ticks a lot of boxes: the spiraling, disco-era chunk of boogaloojazz-funk fusion remains popular on specialist dancefloors - especially jazz-dance ones - and original copies frequently change hands online for well over 50 quid.
