Mystery Road is the third studio album by the Hard RockSouthern Rock band Drivin' N' Cryin', released on March 28, 1989, by Island Records. The Washington Post said the album remains a classic of the genre. Originally, Peter Buck was going to be the producer of the album. He was a friend and . were successful, and they recorded demos together. However, Island Records refused and chose Scott McPherson to be the producer. Though not as strong as Whisper Tames the Lion, Mystery Road keeps Drivin' n' Cryin' in search of the best way to fuse their harder rock leanings with their traditional Southern roots, as they vacillate from the crunch of You Don't Know Me to the wistful Peacemaker.
