Sally Go 'Round the Roses is the name of a 1963 hit by The Jaynetts, a Bronx-based one-hit wonder girl group, released by J&S Records on the Tuff label. The producer of Sally Go 'Round the Roses, Abner Spector, was an A&R man for the Chicago-based Chess Records. Spector was responsible for The Corsairs' 1962 number 12 hit Smoky Places, which had been released on Tuff, a subsidiary of J&S Records. In the summer of 1963, Spector asked J&S owner, Zelma Zell Sanders, to assemble a vocal ensemble. Sally Go 'Round the Roses. For the first time this name appeared in 1957-1958, when the group was put together by Zell Sanders, president of J & S Records, from the members of The Hearts. This set recorded a song with Justine Washington as the lead singer. She had already recorded her first single under the name Donna Gaines, an unsuccessful remake in 1971 of the Jaynetts Sally Go Round the Roses. Her work as a backup singer brought her to the attention of Mr. Moroder and Mr. Her 1974 debut album with them, Lady of the Night, was released only in Europe. On the Radio was Ms. Summers last album for Casablanca. As disco receded, she moved to Geffen Records, seeking to hold her broader pop audience. She tried new wave rock on The Wanderer in 1981, then switched to the R&B produced by Quincy Jones for Donna Summer in 1982
