The Butcher's Ballroom is the debut studio album by Swedish avant-garde metal band Diablo Swing Orchestra, released in 2006. It features all four songs from their EP and disc debut Borderline Hymns, along with 9 new songs, for a total of 13 tracks divided into two acts. It is the band's first release with singer AnnLouice Lögdlund. It received the Biggest Surprise award at the 2006 Metal Storm Awards. All tracks are written by Daniel Håkansson, except where noted. Their first album, The Butchers Ballroom, flirts with nearly every style of music imaginable. Name one other band that combines chugging riffs with cellos, soprano vocals, horns, keyboards, didgeridoo, and a whole host of other instruments. I dare you. The composing ability of the band is astounding. Ive never heard anything like their album anywhere else. Flamenco, swing, Middle Eastern, western, jazz and classical elements all make their way into the album at one point or another. From the get-go, it may seem like the band is a gimmick.
