Short intro

Denyce Graves has made quite a splash in the opera world with her performances of sultry mezzo roles such as Carmen and Dalila at the Metropolitan Opera and elsewhere. Both of those roles are naturally featured here, as the opening and closing bookends of this disc, but in the 10 arias that come between these favorites, Graves demonstrates an admirable versatility, ranging from the purity and decorum of Purcell to the impassioned drama of Mascagni. Denyce Graves born March 7, 1964 is an American operatic mezzo-soprano. Graves was born on March 7, 1964, in Washington, D. to Charles Graves and Dorothy Middleton Graves-Kenner. She is the middle of three children and was raised by her mother on Galveston Street, S. in the Bellevue section of Washington. She graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in 1981. Graves studied voice at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory with Helen Hodam. She worked at. Listen free to Denyce Graves Voce di Donna Carmen: Quand je vous aimerai. Denyce Graves has become particularly well-known to operatic audiences for her portrayals of the title roles in Carmen and Samson et Dalila. That same year Voce di Donna, a solo recording of opera arias, was released on RCA Red Seal. The Lost Days, a recording with jazz musicians of Latin songs in the Spanish and Portuguese languages, was released in January 2003. In June 2003 Church was released - this recording, developed by Denyce Graves, brings together African-American divas from various forms of music, all of whom were first exposed to music through their upbringing in church. Graves,Denyce Voce Di Donna. This isn't mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves's first solo disc she has previously released a compilation of romantic opera heroines, but it's definitely her most impressive. Like many beginning recording artists, she hasn't always been able to project her stage electricity into the microphone, but with such a sumptuous voice, one doesn't always mind. Here, though, there's not a dull moment in two choice arias each from roles Graves has sung often onstage: her signature role of Carmen and her almost-as-famous Dalila. Recognized worldwide as one of todays most exciting vocal stars, Denyce Graves continues to gather unparalleled popular and critical acclaim in performances on four continents. USA Today identifies her as an operatic superstar of the 21st Century, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution exclaims, if the human voice has the power to move you, you will be touched by Denyce Graves. Her career has taken her to the worlds great opera houses and concert halls. Voce di Donna. Release group by Denyce Graves. US1999-08-24.
