One of the lesser known entries into this milieu is Del Shannon's The Further Adventures of Charles Westover, and it's a pity that it's one of the lesser known because it stands the test of time as one of the best. Not only one of the best psychedelic albums of all time, but also one of Del Shannon's best albums. Songs like I Think I Love You, Thinkin' It Over, Gemini and Colour Flashing Hair are not only great psychedelic songs, but great Del Shannon songs. Charles Weedon Westover December 30, 1934 February 8, 1990, better known by his stage name Del Shannon, was an American rock and roll and country musician and singer-songwriter, best known for his 1961 number 1 Billboard hit Runaway. Shannon was born Charles Weedon Westover a day before New Year's Eve of 1934, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Bert and Leone Mosher Westover, and grew up in nearby Coopersville. He learned to play the ukulele and guitar and listened to country-and-western music, by. Del used his birth name on the title for this album, an erie and rocking mix of great tunes. The opener, Thinkin It Over, really nailed me the first time I heard it. But dont let this Care of Cell 44 -like great rollicking opener distract you from the rest. There are songs with great guitar work and lush string and horn orchestration. Del gets bluesy on Be My Friend, takes it down with Silver Birch and gets trippy on Colour Flashing Hair. Plus there is the awesome, driving I Think I Love You with sitar-like guitar work and a droning orchestra. Many great gems on this record.
