Live Santa Monica '72 is a live album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie. It was released on 30 June 2008 in the United Kingdom and 22 July 2008 in the United States. It is the official release of KMET FM's radio broadcast, then bootleg album and later semi-legal release Santa Monica '72, recorded at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium during the Ziggy Stardust Tour. By November 2008 the album had sold 10,000 copies in US. All songs written by David Bowie except where noted. Recorded from Bowie's first live American broadcast, this October 20, 1972 concert is a good choice for those who found themselves left cold by the awkward soul and the absence of Mick Ronson on David Live. Coming on the heels of the release of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie is captured here at the height of his creative powers. This is a remarkable and stellar album recorded live during the Ziggy Stardust Tour at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium 1972. I give this album out Santa Monica '72. David Bowie. Bowie and his Spiders from Mars-freshly expanded with new keyboardist Mike Garson-are scary-tight: the opening Hang on to Yourself has the manic energy of punk four years before the Ramones. Earlier, more reflective material like the haunting Life on Mars and a dramatic take on Jacques Brel's My Death is. Santa Monica '72 has had some level of official release before, but this version is repackaged and unlimited: An opportunity for casual fans to experience what is supposedly the best Bowie show on record. The obvious comparison for Santa Monica '72 is Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture: same tour, but a very different document. That album is David Bowie returning to Britain as a conquering hero and stunning his fans with his apparent retirement- this one finds him far from home and still feeling his way into stardom. I then started searching through for David Bowie Santa Monica and was surprised to find that there have been commercial CD's of this concert put out. I was also glad to find that at least a couple versions releases were still available. So I purchased the boxed version. Fantastic live album of an early Bowie in the US.
