Cactus Choir - perhaps the most fully realised and successful piece on offer and given that it features Dave's signature keys palette plus Tony Reeves on bass then yeah, it does sound a LOT like early Greenslade albeit stripped of Lawson's idiosyncratic lyrical twist. The sung sections remind me in places of good and memorable Barclay James Harvest cf flouncy bouffant forgettable BJH. After his eponymous band Greenslade fell apart in the wake of 1975's Time & Tide, keyboardist Dave Greenslade set off on his own path, constructing a loose concept album based on the American West. For listeners unfamiliar either with Greenslade or his first band Colosseum, the Roger Dean cover art for Cactus Choir functions as a good tipoff that this 1976 LP should not be seen as a companion to the Western fantasia of Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection. Listen free to Dave Greenslade Cactus Choir Pedro's Party, Gettysburg and more. 8 tracks 43:42. It is loosely based on a concept about the colonization of American West, and it features a simpler sound than previous Greenslade albums. The artwork for the album cover is by Roger Dean.
