My version of this pressing is flawed. Apparently, some of these made it out of the plant with distortion which makes the record unlistenable. You can hear some music but mainly it's distorted. I don't know how many are out there like this. I got mine at a record store I used to work at. They had about 10 of em and for some reason unable to return them. All of the ones they had were like this.

I bought two at separate occasions and both turned out to be flawed. Looks like bubbles in the record if you hold it up against light.

I could get a copy of this unofficial LP, the sound is loud and clear... without distort, but would like to hear it on different turntables Hi-Fi or DJ to have a better opinion about how the sound varies. For me it is very expensive buy original first pressings due to skyrocketted prices on demand of this and I just paid for this $50.00 as a "duo pack offer" including the second album Danzig II - Lucifuge.

I don't have a lot of problems with noise or pops on this record but overall it would say it's a bit tinny and flat. Not mastered well for vinyl. I bought it unaware it was a bootleg. Any idea when we might see an official pressing if the early Danzig?

I just picked up a red one at my local record shop for nineteen bones. Was pretty stoked when my son pulled it out and showed me. I've been looking for a copy of this LP for a long while now. I suspected something was fishy by the "fake-ish" loose shrink wrap it was packaged in. However, put somewhat at ease by the outer sleeve: decent card stock cover. The sound quality is poor on the red pressing - I just listened to the whole album in one sitting. There are random pops everywhere (after a cleaning on my RCM) on every song - affecting one's listening experience when a solo isn't being ripped. Soul On Fire is way to noisy during its quiet passages; often over powering the music. Same goes for End Of Time's intro. One could say the vinyl is a bit to noisy for a new pressing and I wouldn't disagree, but the sonic impact is there. Stereophonics are good (guitar left channel; drums right). Getting into the dead wax on both sides is like listening to the fourth of July. There are no lyrics or song listing anywhere. Had I known what I know now I would have passed on this. Disappointed my record store stocked this counterfeit BUT some of the Desert Session counterfeits sound sublime. Dice rolled: snake eyes.... I'm still on the lookout for a "quieter" official first pressing... but this will hold me over for the moment when I need to get my Danzig on.

Can anyone tell me more about these "unofficial" vinyl releases? Who is making them? If they are counterfeits, how is it legal? I can't imagine Danzig is fine with having these presses and not making any money from them.

Manufacturer unknown. As with all counterfeits they are illegal to produce. They would only be removed from Discogs by request of the artist. Ultimately they are listed here because they exist, and as such are cataloged.

Listening to „She rides“ let me imagine the reincarnation of the dark side of Jim Morrison from the Doors. Great performance! But there seems to be as well an acustic influence by the 1987th album „Electric“ from the Cult. Coincidence? I guess not!

I have a grey, slightly marbled version of this. No identifiers. Except the run out Mother - A1 -B1. A few pops, and some light crackling in places. None of which you can hear on the actual tracks, so overall quite good. Cost me £10. Still, I think I should invest in a mint/near mint 1st pressing.

I have the copy that I bought in 1991, along with Lucifuge. The only 2 vinyls I saved. They're beaten and scratchy, but still sound great. Superior, actually, to many contemporarires.

I hate bootlegs...don't waste your money on those unofficial releases, you're throwing your money away... its buying a cd pressed to vinyl. Sometimes Its worth just shelling out the extra cash for a 1st press that sounds amazing..I know how much they go for but if you search hard enough you can get one for a decent price, the boots seem to be pricey also though..I've seen them for like 50 bucks I spent 70 bucks recently on my 1st press.

Aside from lovers/collectors of Misfits and Samhain, this is really the only Danzig album you need to own. After this, Glenn's ego really went into overdrive. This album is great though, at times it sounds like Danzig is channelling the spirit of a decaying and cantankerous Elvis Presley. It perfectly captures the interesting aspects of heavy metal without the posturing and cheesy guitar solos. The production by Rick Rubin is unrivalled; the sound quality is so solid and clean throughout that each song flows perfectly into the next without a drop in intensity. The other interesting aspect of this album is the way Danzig’s lyrics convey an atmosphere of morbidity and barely restrained aggression without the use of profanity or gratuitous violence.

^ re: "This is really the only Danzig album you need to own." Seriously hysteric, no offense meant, but...you must be clueless. Danzig is a great, great album, but its sequel Lucifuge is even better. And his name isn't "Glenn Whitman". He jokingly introduced himself as "Slim Whitman" (a country musician) in an old Misfits era interview.
