Frequency and Phase is Daniel Ibbotson's third album in just over two years, and from the first few tracks, it shows. The early '80s R&B raunch of the opener, Coming to Get You, goes on a bit too long, and the follow-up Island Song never gets going at all. Still, he ups the ante from his last full-length, Stream Lines, matching his house inspiration the crisp percussion and loose-booty basslines with synth-horns, bongos, and electric piano that sound more like '80s porn soundtracks than electronic listening music.
