Short intro

Endless Flowers is the third studio album by American rock band Crocodiles. On the Berlin-recorded Endless Flowers, its hard not to feel that the circles on Welchez and Rowells thematic Venn diagram have been forced together this time around to produce maximum overlap. This self-produced offering has a sunnier disposition than its predecessors, and the recurrent flower motif - symbolic of love, death and fragile beauty - provides the album with lyrical focus and continuity. Crucially, their bold decision to expand to a five-piece also delivers sonic cohesion, allowing one propulsive, hook-filled tune to bleed seamlessly into the next. Endless Flowers is also the name of Croc's latest record released on 65 by Frenchkiss in the US and Souterrain Transmissions internationally. Maybe I need to get my hearing checked. It seems like in the past every mention of Crocodiles triggered a Jesus and Mary Chain or Echo and the Bunnymen comparison, but while I listen to the San Diego band's third album, Endless Flowers, all I keep thinking about is a Drake song. Don't get me wrong, Crocodiles still rely on bleary guitar distortion, Brandon Welchez's vocals perpetually stuck between a yawn and a sneer, sneaky pilfering of the Spector catalog, and almost nothing else, so no one will confuse Endless Flowers for, say, Crew Love.
