Destiny is an album by American jazz pianist Marilyn Crispell with saxophonist Fred Anderson and drummer Hamid Drake recorded in the 1994 Women of the New Jazz festival at Chicagos HotHouse and released on Okka Disk. First time she heard Anderson playing tenor sax at the Velvet Lounge, Crispell knew she would work with him. Asked with whom she wanted to play at the festival, she took the opportunity. Crispell and Drake had already worked together as a trio with German saxophonist Peter Brötzmann. Recorded live on April 8, 1994 during The Women of New Music Festival at the Hot House, Chicago, captures an electrifying live concert of pianist Marilyn Crispell, tenor saxophonist Fred Anderson, and percussionist Hamid Drake at Chicago's 1994 Women of New Music Festival, which was the first public performance of this all-star trio. The improvised set is broken up into six pieces, entitled Destiny 1-6. Anderson and Drake rip right into the opening, and Crispell joins them not long after with clusters and energetic runs.
