Cream - Goodbye 1969. While the live side contains nothing as indelible as Crossroads, the live music on. Being proper gentlemen, they said their formal goodbyes with a tour and a farewell album called - what else - - Goodbye. As a slim, six-song single LP, it's far shorter than the rambling, out-of-control Wheels of Fire, but it boasts the same structure, evenly dividing its time between tracks cut on-stage and in the studio. It reached number one in the United Kingdom and number two in the US. The album was released after Cream disbanded in November 1968. It was released in Europe by Polydor Records and by Atco Records in the United States, debuting in Billboard on 15 February 1969. If youre a fan of pure, simple blues you wont like these however, if you can appreciate a few studio effects, theyll be quite listenable. Hence, whether or not they work depends largely upon the taste of the individual. Album Name Goodbye. More By Cream. Critics will probably tear it apart, while even bonafide Cream Freaks will have to be a little disappointed. Has anyone else noticed that when you enter the catalog number for Cream (2) - Goodbye RS 1 3013, Dead Can Dance - Into The Labyrinth shows in the list that appears. It may be just me, but they appear to have similar cover art and Dead Can Dance - Into The Labyrinth does have a catalog number with 3013.

In a chart of Cream albums, I'd rank this third, with "Wheels OF Fire" second and "Disraeli Gears" on top. Like it's predecessor, "Goodbye" is divided in two with half the material being from live performances, and the other half from the studio. Also like it's predecessor, it has contributions from all three artists. While the live material doesn't quite reach the heights of "Crossroads" or "Spoonful", unlike "Wheels Of Fire" it doesn't have any weak points. From the studio material, Clapton's "Badge" has a timeless quality to it, making it one of their most, (if not typical) memorable tunes. Bruce's "Doing That Scrapyard Thing" whilst also enjoyable, is very of it's time, as is Ginger Baker's, unusual, "What A Bringdown".
