Danzón cubano is a composition for two pianos by American composer Aaron Copland. The piece, written in 1942, was inspired by the Cuban genre of the same name. It was first arranged for orchestra in 1946. After having premiered El Salon Mexico in Mexico City in 1937, Copland traveled to Havana and other Latin American countries to study their rhythms and musical forms, with which he had a fascination. During this trip, he finished his second book, Our New Music, together with his lover, Victor Kraft. I first heard Rodeo and El Salon Mexico on television conducted by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in the 1960's. I immediately became a huge fan of Copland, Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and purchased the Columbia vinyl album and wore it out. Both pieces are still some of the most exciting and beautiful music I've ever heard. Like a lot of Boomers who have upgraded to modern music systems with far better speakers and vastly more powerful and lower distortion amplifiers, I have been disappointed in the sound"
