More By Clogs. See Garden is a rich botanical paradise created by Lady Walton the widow of the late British composer Sir William Walton on the island of Ischia in Italy's Bay of Naples. The album was recorded in stages in Brooklyn and Sydney during 2007-08 with another year and a half for mixing and finishing. It embodies some of the fortunate vagaries of creating music with four people in three cities on two continents, not to mention the cadre of additional musicians who brought their own presence of character to the project. released March 2, 2010. This is their first non-instrumental album, featuring several guest singers, including Shara Worden, singer and songwriter of the indie rock band My Brightest Diamond, Matt Berninger, lead singer of Clogs' sister band the National and Sufjan Stevens, a prominent indie folk singersongwriter. Like all Clogs releases, Lady Walton defies simple description. There are moments of impossible beauty Owl of Love , dense, but structured dissonance Adages of Cleansing , and of course, whimsical, classically minded, indie folk On the Edge , that when consumed all together, feel like a perfectly executed mash-up of Aaron Copland, Dead Can Dance, Bill Frisell, and Shirley Collins. These are the creatures in Lady Walton's garden, they intone, round-robin style, while also singing the Italian names of various animals cocodrillo, rana, pappagallo in a seemingly onomatopoetic fashion. Composed- like every song here- by Newsome, it's a marvel of composition and production, the way the song stacks their voices as each animal enters the fray, the cacophony mimicking the sounds of a vibrant jungle. Then, just as skillfully, these voices are removed one at a time, returning the song to its starting point.
