Youth is the debut studio album by American rock band Citizen, released June 11, 2013 on Run for Cover Records. Citizen formed in 2009 with members located in Michigan and Ohio. The group released a handful of singles and an EP, Young States 2011. In March 2012, it was announced the band signed to Run for Cover. Citizen entered Studio 4 with producer Will Yip Title Fight, Circa Survive, Braid, in February 2013, to record their first debut album, Youth. Citizen - Youth Full Album. Based in an emopost-hardcore mindset, the crunchy guitar and chugging rhythm section make the bittersweet melodies feel heavy, while the lyrics are nostalgic and angst-ridden. In a way, this sounds like a lost classic '90s record with its world-shaking arrangements and fragile spirit. Citizen successfully find their footing on their debut full length in a more despondent and gloomy version of their former selves. What this album lacks in energy it makes up for in honesty and resolution. This record doesn't have an air of hopelessness, but where their prior EP's and splits have sounded a bit more upbeat and angst ridden this feel considerably more dejected both lyrically and musically.
