Short intro

The Pete Jolly Trio And Friends Little Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye is a live album by Cecil Taylor recorded in Stuttgart, Germany, on June 14, 1978 and released on the Hat Hut label. The album features performances by Taylor with Raphe Malik, Jimmy Lyons, Ramsey Ameen, Sirone and Ronald Shannon Jackson. The album was originally released as a triple LP featuring the Cecil Taylor Unit performances tracks 4-11 all titled One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye then rereleased as a double CD with duets by Lyons & Malik and. Album 2003 8 Songs. More By Cecil Taylor Unit. It Is in the Brewing Luminous Live. Live In Vienna. Live In Bologna. Cecil Taylor Unit: все альбомы, включая One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye , It Is in the Brewing . Released 2005. Cecil must have drilled the Unit on exactly where their soloing parts were to be placed, as the music's development sounds at once unfettered and controlled, the overall structure very tightly formed. Taylor opens with his trusty tactic of picking duo and solo permutations to set the scene before he and the full Unit take flight. Alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons and trumpeter Raphe Malik tussle in tandem, engaging in a dialogue of ripped-out scribbles. The first three tracks here are all relatively pared down affairs that feature, in turn, the alto sax of Jimmy Lyons battling with the trumpet of Raphe Malik, the violin of Ramsey Ameen grinding against the bass of Sirone, and an extended drum solo from Ronald Shannon Jackson. These tracks are as jarring and 'free' as you'd expect from the genre, and they come from an avant-garde, conceptual mindset, but really it's just Cecil Taylor pulling out the oldest trick in the book - he's introducing the band members, one by one. I almost picked up a Cecil Taylor album today. Piano, Composed By Cecil Taylor. Producer Pia Uehlinger. Cecil Taylor Unit. One Too Many Salty Swift And Not Goodbye 2xCD, Album, RE. hatOLOGY 2-599. The Cecil Taylor Unit. Love this track. Set track as current obsession. And so, any reservations I had about the album were completely unfounded and in fact this may be Cecil's greatest concert on disc. CT is at the height of his powers and instrumentation-wise there are all kinds of variations, with minimal overlap of sax and trumpet, which is good news to me. Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2000. Format: Audio CD. One Too Many Salty Swift And Not Goodbye is one Cecil Taylor's best albums, and a personal favorite. Recorded live in Germany in 1978, the original vinyl release was awarded the 1981 Record of the Year in the Down Beat Critics Poll
