Buddha and the Chocolate Box is the eighth studio album by Cat Stevens. The title came to Stevens when he was travelling to a gig on a plane with a Buddha in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other. He pondered that if he were to die in the plane these would be the last objects with him, and he would be caught between the spiritual and the material. The album leans towards the spiritual path, and is an indication of the direction his life would follow. All tracks composed by Cat Stevens. Back to Discography. Buddha And The Chocolate Box. Released March 19, 1974. After the stylistic and personnel changes of the previous album, Foreigner, Buddha and the Chocolate Box saw the return of both Paul Samwell-Smith as producer and Alun Davies on guitar. The album certainly feels like a return to the style of the Tillerman, Teaser era, however, the musical arrangements and production are notably slicker. The albums title was the result of a plane journey during which Cat found himself to be carrying a small Buddha statue in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other. While Foreigner was Cat Stevens' fifth consecutive gold album and his fourth straight Top Ten hit, it actually marked a small drop commercially and encountered critical resistance for the lengthy suite that took up all of side one. Eight months later, Buddha and the Chocolate Box found Stevens back in England and back with producer Paul Samwell-Smith and second guitarist Alun Davies. It also marked a return to the simpler style of earlier albums. Cat Stevens. SingerSongwriter eighth studio album written and released by Cat Stevens Yusuf Islam, the title of this album came to him during an airplane flight. Stevens boarded the plane carrying a statue of Buddha and box of chocolates. According to Stevens, if the plane were to crash, those would be the last objects carried with him, thus placing him between the spiritual and material worlds. Buddha and the Chocolate Box Q&A. If veteran Cat Stevens fans were nervous in the wake of the previous album's Foreigner sometimes sketchy experimentalism, they must surely have been gratified by the singer-songwriter's return to form here. 2014 - Update: I listened to several Cat Steven's old albums lately and this one, Buddah and the Chocolate Box, jumped out at me with several of the cuts, sounding so much more than I remember them. The era this came out, was about when I married and I think I didn't feel it was as good as a couple of his others, I really liked. 9 видео Воспроизвести все Buddha And The Chocolate BoxCat Stevens. The last really good Cat Stevens song, two albums back, was appropriately titled I Cant Keep It In. Since then hes been pouring out separate streams of interesting melody and dubious verbiage, streams that never converge. That would not necessarily be a problem - Stevens remains a gifted composer no matter what - were it not for the fact that his lyrics become so much more strident and incoherent with each progressively less promising effort. All of the album is beautifully performed, but parts of it are overproduced. Cat needs a dozen good songs a lot more than he needs a dozen background singers right now. In This Article: Cat Stevens.
