You would expect the music on Live Oblivian Volume 1 to be better than Volume 2, but actually it is the other way around. As usual this album shows off the amazing high energy jazzrockRnB keyboard playing of Brian Auger. Brian rocks harder than most jazzers, and is a little jazzier than most rockers, this makes him sort of a misiing link between the worlds of Jimmy Smith and Jon Lord. Live Oblivion Volume 1 is a music live recording by BRIAN AUGER Jazz RockFusionProgressive Rock released in 1975 on cd, lp, vinyl andor cassette. Wes's original is a great peice of smart urban groove, but Auger's version seems a little slow on this album. To make matters worse Alex starts improvising vocals about how Wes found himself. The song does get in one nice B3 solo before it grinds to a halt. The first outing by Brian Auger's jazz-rock ensemble the Oblivion Express, first issued in 1971, is one of the great masterpieces of jazz-rock fusion. Auger, having just disbanded his longtime band the Trinity in 1970, still had plenty of rock and roll in his system. His yearning for the open frontiers of electric jazz was certainly the driving force - in the same way that it was for Miles Davis on A Tribute to Jack Johnson, and Lifetime was for Tony Williams - but it was anchored in the visceral application of rock. The blue Live Oblivion has been an album I've sought for years on CD. I recall Bumpin' On Sunseton the vinyl version, as identical to the version on The Best of Brian Auger's Oblivion Express double CD, a 10:51 jam. This blue CD is wanting because the third cut was not Bumpin' - but some other song, about 4 minutes long. It also has two versions of Inner City Blues which blew my mind. I received the Oblivion Live Volume one and thoroughly enjoyed the free flowing rockjazz of Brian Auger's band. I especially like Bumpin' On Sunset. Although the price was a little high, this was a difficult CD to find, so I didn't mind.
