Daisy is the fourth studio album by American rock band Brand New, released September 22, 2009 on Interscope. Daisy was co-produced by both the band and their longtime producer Mike Sapone. Brand New recorded the album in Sapone's studio in Bethpage, New York between 2008 and 2009. Brand New has been pulling out all the stops since they first hit the Long Island emo-scene earlier in the decade. Since then, they have managed to grow up quite nicely, expanding their sound on each album, with 2006s The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me being a pinnacle of sorts. With their latest, Daisy, the band has taken another step in their evolution, wrapping up all that we love about them in a gritty little package thats just waiting to explode. Their debut sound on 2001s Your Favourite Weapon was only a base, almost juvenile when compared to the 2003 follow up, Déjà Entendu. Brand New - Daisy review: I've tried. God knows that I've tried. That part in Vices, when the album slugs you in the face after forcing you to strain your ears and think Dear God, what is this bullshit: thats it. Daisy is broken and Daisy is violent. It is not romantic and it is not particularly deep. Its this writhing, bitter little record, obsessed with mortality as if the thing were breathing down its neck. Death is all over Daisy, and not in the contemplative way it appeared on Devil and God, as a little girl from a headline or as an afterthought in the subconscious of Handcuffs. Its too immediate here. The stakes are higher. Brand New's ability to jump from quiet moments to grating, full-throttle freakouts has been the centerpiece of several albums, and the Long Island boys revisit that formula once again with Daisy.
