Bobby Osborne & The Rocky Top X-Press performing at the Grand Ole Opry in 2007. Bobby Osborne born December 7, 1931 is a bluegrass musician known for his mandolin playing and high lead vocals. Born in Leslie County, Kentucky, Osborne is known primarily for his collaborations with his brother Sonny Osborne in their band, the Osborne Brothers. It was the first album since 2009's Bluegrass & Beyond. The album came about when, at 85 years of age he did a guest collaboration with Peter Rowan which led him to team up with Alison Brown and Compass Records to create music once more. The Rocky Top X-Press is the new backing band of Bobby Osborne, introduced in 2006. They have 3 albums. The latest was released in March 2009. Known as a great mandolinist in his own right, as well as a member of the revolutionary Osborne Brothers band, Bobby Osborne has often been associated with the cutting edge of bluegrass.
