Short intro
Empire Burlesque is the 23rd studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on June 10, 1985 on Columbia Records. Self-produced, the album peaked at No. 33 in the U. and No. 11 in the UK. Accompanied by multiple session musicians-including members of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench and Howie Epstein-the album has a distinct 80s style aesthetic. Fans and critics continue to debate the album's merits, especially when compared to his 1960s and 1970s output. The rest of the album may not be as graceful, but it's still well-crafted songwriting that never fails to be interesting. The record's biggest flaw is its state-of-the-art production this is every bit as slick as Street Legal, but now sounds more focused and more of its time - thanks to a reliance on synthesizers and mildly sequenced beats - than it did upon its original release. All this makes Empire Burlesque seem more transient than it actually is, since - discounting the production - this is as good as Dylan gets in his latter days. The production techniques used on Empire Burlesque are typical of the 1980s, and contemporary critics find it to be one of the few Dylan albums that now sound quite dated. However, the songwriting is generally considered to be some of Dylan's strongest of the decade, with such notable compositions as Tight Connection to My Heart and Dark Eyes. And tunes like Clean Cut Kid, a visceral portrait of Americas culture of violence, and Seeing the Real You at Last, a trenchant takedown of a relationship gone rotten, are as vivid and vibrant as anything in his catalogRelated to Bob Dylan - Empire Burlesque
