It must have been a disappointment to Billy Cobham that Alivemutherforya wasnt billed as his eighth solo album and instead, Steve Khan, Alphonso Johnson, Tom Scott received equal billing. This CBS hoped would lead to an increase in album sales with four stars on the one album. It didnt quite work out like that, despite Alivemutherforya being well received by critics. Although the music is mostly funky and uses plenty of electronics Scott sounds quite faceless on lyricon, there are some strong solos, particularly from Khan and Scott when he is on tenor.
