Barclay James Harvest reduced to a threesome, having released 2 sub-par albums in succession in the early 80s, featuring guest keyboard players making 80s keyboard sounds. The group's artistic decline had begun, even if they were riding a wave of commercial popularity in Germany. Yet these shortcomings are compensated for by greater experience, a certain mellowing, and an ever improving sense of dynamics. A Concert For The People also known as Berlin was Barclay James Harvest's third official live album. While Barclay James Harvest is certainly not among my favourite bands and this live album was not recorded during their strongest era, the result is pretty decent. Cut live at the Reichstag in the German city, Berlin is very different from The Live Tapes, with a rather leaner, harder-rocking sound, and more of a dance-rock feel as well, and is also miked much closer for a more intimate sound. Mockingbird, Child of the Universe, and Hymn are all performed rather more tightly than earlier live renditions, and with more flamboyant electronic effects. On 30th August 1980, with the Berlin Wall still very much in place, Barclay James Harvest performed a celebratory concert in front of the Reichstag in Berlin for a vast German audience, estimated at 250,000. The concert opens with the greatest hits from Rick's biggest selling album The Six Wives of Henry VIII, followed by the complete 'Journey' and also includes hits from his then-new album King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. They were founded in Saddleworth, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, in September 1966 by John Lees, Les Holroyd, Stuart Woolly Wolstenholme 19472010, and Mel Pritchard 19482004.
