This had possibilities of being a rather good hard rock album, but got overpacked with cliches at the start opening vocal howl, speed leads that go nowhere, some Led Zep swipes, with the good qualities strong rhythm playing, great energy being lost in the mix. It should and could have been better - when these guys let loose, they smoke. While Voodoo Highway was being recorded and produced, band tensions began to rise. The band also refused to co-operate with Atlantic Records, who demanded a song writer Desmond Child be hired to help write songs with the band. The group lasted from 1988 to 1993 and released two albums, Badlands 1989 and Voodoo Highway 1991 before Gillen left and was replaced by singer John West from New York. Ray's death in 1993 effectively ended any hopes of re-uniting the project. The album Dusk originally recorded in 1992 - 1993 was posthumously released in 1998. Voodoo Highway - the sophomore release from Badlands is a first-rate follow-up to the band's self-titled debut. This record rocks hard like its predecessor, but it also showcases a more versatile and mature collection of songs than the first. Tracks range from up-tempo hard rockers in Heaven's Train, to the a capella almost southern hymn In A Dream. Voodoo Highway. Badlands Format: Audio CD. Verified Purchase. This is a great follow up album. It's built like the first album and they stayed very true to there sound.
