A song stylist from the 1950s, in the 1980s Audrey Morris returned to singing, with steady releases of vocal albums on her own label Fancy Faire. While she had lost nothing over the years, she gained greater sensitivity to the messages delivered through the lyrics she sang. Her renditions on Afterthoughts are by no means automatic recitations. In the 1950's, one of the charms of a Chicago night was the sleek brunette who sang and played piano at Mister Kellys, a famous stop on the supper club circuit. Seated at a spinet between two staircases, Audrey Morris defied the mealtime chaos with her quiet portrait of a world-weary romantic. Audrey Morris November 12, 1928 April 1, 2018 was an American singer and pianist who specialized in jazz ballads. Morris grew up on the South Side of Chicago and had classical piano lessons in her childhood. Through the radio broadcasts of Your Hit Parade, she developed an interest in songs.
