Overview . The Art Pepper Quartet is an album by saxophonist Art Pepper featuring sessions from 1956 recorded for the Tampa label. The album was rereleased on CD on Original Jazz Classics with bonus tracks in 1994. Fine music, but not essential when one considers how many gems Art Pepper recorded during his rather hectic life. This CD contains Art Pepper's live performance at Chicago's celebrated Jazz Showcase club on July 16, 1977, presented here for the first time ever in any format. Much like his legendary Village Vanguard recordings that would be made two weeks later during the same East Coast tour, this performance showcases Pepper in a quartet setting at the height of his ability. He is backed here by an outsatnding group of Chicago musicians. A radio interview with Pepper was taped immediately prior to this concert. It has been added at the end of this CD.
