Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers: ToughMirageTheory of Art - Art Blakey. Jazz Messengers is a 1961 jazz album released by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers for Impulse Records. Expanding to a sextet for the first time, it was the group's final recording with Bobby Timmons, who would be replaced by Cedar Walton. There is only one original the rest are standards that have not been overdone. Recorded in 1957 but not released until 1966, drummer Art Blakey's Tough is a swinging hard bop date. Joining Blakey here is saxophone giant Jackie McLean, along with a stellar group of less-appreciated artists including trumpeter Bill Hardman, pianist Sam Dockery, and bassist Spanky DeBrest. While not as essential as some of Blakey's other Jazz Messengers releases, Tough certainly holds its own. Track Listing. 2019 г. Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers Tough. Its also the last record pianist Bobby Timmons made with the group. It opens with the brisk Fuller blues of À la mode before tackling five standards, bringing brashness to Circus and agile soulfulness to Gee Baby Aint I Good to YouRelated to Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers - Tough!
