Dedicated to Bobby Jameson is the eleventh studio album by American recording artist Ariel Pink, released on September 15, 2017, through Mexican Summer. It is the follow-up to 2014's pom pom and features a narrative Pink described in a press release as a battery of tests and milestones, the first of which sees him reborn into life out of death. Released September 15, 2017. Dedicated to Bobby Jameson Tracklist. Time to Meet Your God Lyrics. Bobby Jameson was a pop act in the 60s. When he began his career he was hyped as the next big pop artist within the Billboard promotional campaign. Later in Jamesons career he had a variety of personal issues including suicide attempts and alcoholism. The most likely reason for this is Jameson never got any financial reward for his music. Photography By Charles Producer. Ariel Pink is one of those artists who doesnt change their style so much as drill deeper into it with every album. Retreating from the studio sound of his recent breakthroughs into the murk of his early recordings see 2004s classic The Doldrums, Dedicated to Bobby Jameson is a strange, phantasmagoric experience, by turns creepy Santas in the Closet , pretty Feels Like Heaven , and something unsettlingly in-between Do Yourself a Favor . As always, Pink loves a weird joke, but the prevailing mood is one of loss-of hearing something fade away in haunting real time. Dedicated to Bobb. Ariel Pink, whos dedicated his new album to Bobby Jameson, has experienced his own dramatic evolution in the public eye. When we first met Ariel Rosenberg in the mid-2000s, he was an enigmatic outsider propped by Animal Collectives in-house record label. The question circling his music was less Who is this than What is this Like Bobby Jameson-whose releases arrived under various guises to fool the public into thinking he was a new, emerging talent-Pink always distanced himself from his output. He proves to be a potent muse for Pink on Dedicated to Bobby Jameson, an album that gives a little more shape to the themes of wish fulfillment, disappointment, and mortality that he's explored over the years. In a sense, the album sees Pink reclaiming some of his own outsider status: It appeared on Mexican Summer instead of 4AD, the home of some of his most popular albums, and it returns to the murky sound of his earlier work, which Pink uses as an expression of Jameson's past and his own. An OK press. There are a few odd warps that ultimately compliment the record. Inner grooves on side A aren't the best I've heard, but it's hard to gauge given Ariel Pink's variance in production style across tracks on this LP. The paper inner-sleeve is definitely worrying and I'll be replacing it with some non-static sleeves ASAP.

My copy is a right mess after only a few plays. Think it's the inner paper sleeve causing the damage.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sleeve was causing the issues. My last copy I probably saved by putting the record in a poly sleeve as soon as it arrived.

My record upon close inspection does have some paper scuffs but playback is way better than I expected.

A solid clean pressing of the album. There were a couple of mild warps on the record but nothing that effected playback. Ariel's vocal and much of the sound effects are heavily distorted and compressed (as intended) which really don't benefit from being on vinyl. However many of the drum and bass elements remain natural sounding and are well represented on this pressing given good solid power and spatial presence. Definitely worth having on vinyl.UPDATE: Oops.. it was dark when I first played the album. I took this thing out during the day and the surface of the vinyl was a mess. Massive paper scuffing and a giant gash mark across side A. Sending it back for another one.

So strange. My second copy was much cleaner but there were a few faint blotches which I've heard is left over residue from the pressing. None of it effected the playback of the album though.

My copy's a-side was fine but there was a weird smudge mark on side-b and a deep scratch across the label and into the last couple of tracks
