Thank you so much for this Takes me back to so many great times in my life. Maybe my 1 in theBalance Series Reposted by2. Anthony Pappa Balance 006. Etichetta: EQ Recordings EQGCD009. Serie: Balance Series 006. Formato: 2 CD, Mixed. A very nice release from Anthony Pappa, and, I would say, very unique. The tracks work together to tell you a story and are not just 'nicely thrown together' to make a good progression. Disk 1 starts out with some beautiful dreamy breaks and then does some damage later as Anthony speeds it up a little. Anthony Pappa is the man to take the big step of following James Holdens mix, and he takes it without looking back. The first disc is a mix full of beautiful melodies, soothing atmospheric touches and 70 minutes of broken beats. We enter disc two, and this is where the classic Pappa is unleashed. From the word go disc two clicks into overdrive, commencing with the chunky beats and booming baseline of My Pills by Pavel Bidlo. Once the pounding beats of Maras remix of Coming up for Air by Rennie Pilgrem kick in, it is plainly obvious that this is Anthony Pappa working the mix as the usual intricate layers that he builds slowly start to form. Disc 1 ends very memorably with Tilt's "I Know You're Afraid", but aside from that its very vanilla progressive house. There's a fair amount of breaks on the first disc, but it still seems a bit too homogeneous. Disc 2 turns a little darker and is the better disc of the two. There's more direction in the set, and it builds a better vibe.

I can't really say this mix stands out in the series because there are some very high quality mixes that take more risks than this one.

A very accessible, atmospheric Balance release that works beautifully from the first, as well as on repeated listens. First CD has a spacey, open-air, summery feel, filling the room with soothing breaks and sunset tunes, adding a little bit of thoughtfulness and deeper-grounded breaks and echoes mid-way, only to release an even more powerful beam of soothing light as it progresses towards the end. It's been working for me very well whenever I needed something more mellow and calming, but imaginative and energising at the same time, something that wouldn't disrupt the atmosphere, but add to it with a sweet, freeing touch. That's exactly what the first mix does - focuses and eases the mind, adding a little bit of extra, feel-good spark.

The second CD starts off with a deeper, darker, and more nocturnal boost that's really difficult to listen to if you're in a situation where you can't move to the beats! Tasty house breaks that flow down with great energy, again, flawlessly mixed together into a coherent, solid mix that is a bit less "open-air" but definitely more "club-friendly", as it evokes images of steaming crowds in laser lights. Absolutely gorgeous for a party mood!

Anthony Pappa develops the mixes with perfect feel for the whole, each track filling the right spot in the journey, with the transitions perfectly seamless. Both mixes feel like a cohesive, original production, which, to me, is a great testament to his skill.

All in all, a fabulous release!

Disk 2 starts out strong right away. Nice breakdown by Ozgur Can's connected early in the set, but then closer to the end tracks get somewhat trippy leading to an unconventional ending (as opposed to the regular 'bang it out' or 'mellow it out' endings). Quite a complicated album, in my opinion, even though at first listen it might sound slightly cheesy. I still give it a 4.8-5/5.
