Short intro

American Blues Exchange. Blueprints is a sort of second- or third-generation go at the blues. American Blues Exchange, it seems, were influenced more by the British blues-based bands and American rock bands of the San Francisco acid-rock variety, which were spinning blues changes in completely new, non-blues directions, than by straight blues itself. Rare 1969 psychedelic album with a hard-edge blues sound featuring dueling guitars, harmonica, recorder & cowbell - including Dust My Broom, Steppin' Out & One Sunny Day. Previously deleted:4105. Original release date:121598. American Blues Exchange was started in the spring of 1968 by a group of students at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Like many of their young contemporaries, the band members were enamored with the progressive blues of some of Britain's heaviest rock bands, who themselves were paying homage to American heroes like Muddy Waters, Elmore James, and Chuck Berry. By 1969, there were enough original songs to record an album, and the band entered the studio to make Blueprints, pressed in a run of a thousand LPs, about half of which actually sold. Connecticut band which release a now EXTREME RARE album 'Blueprint's no. 1' in 1969. Excellent PSYCHY BLUES ROCK with duelling guitars, harmonica, recorder and one helluva cowbell This CD version has 3 unreleased cuts 'Dust my broom', 'Steppin out' & 'One Sunny Day'. read more

The name correctly identifies these guys as a blues band, but their representation of that style is another matter entirely. It's not necessarily that they can't play; it's that there's no groove, no feel, no nothing that would remind you of the blues other than the song structuring on their 1969 Blueprints album. And for that matter, the songs are hopelessly mediocre blues mimicry, often stretched to the point of breaking with meandering guitar solos by guys whose ability obviously wasn't up to the task. For what it's worth, the Gear Fab reissue contains three bonus live covers of titles too magnificent to mention in such company. Methinks these Blueprints were best consigned to the architect's wastebasket.
so right!!!..i love the record...great laid back jams!...party record par excellence!!
Sir, I think one has to remember that "blues bands" of this era were often not what we envision today as shining examples of the genre though it It is easy to armchair quarterback and criticize from afar with no fear of rebuttal or retribution. I suppose it's one of the curses of the digital age. These guys, as far as I know, were not professional musicians and this was their only album. I know one member of the band personally and while he wasn't a pro he was passionate about his music. Mediocre? Certainly... but most of us sit around and talk about things; these guys did something and they have my respect for it.
