AINIGMA - DILUVIUM Little Wing of Refugees LW 1026 LP 41m One of the most legendary of early-70's underground Krautrock albums, DILUVIUM offered a primitive sounding rock with a raw psychedelic feel, and akin to bands like Tomorrow's Gift, Frumpy, or Virus, they were strongly influenced by 60's American bands like Vanilla Fudge, The Electric Prunes, Iron Butterfly, etc. Ainigma were a heady band, into space trucking with heavy organ bolstered riffing, bluesy songs and extended power-drive instrumentals. This trio of 15 to 17 year-olds left little in its path other than shards of amplified sonic detritus. Reissued on CD for the first time, this exhibits a proto-punk noise feast that is highly entertaining if a little prohibitive in its abrasion. It's quite amazing that Ainigma members were only 15-17 years old at the time of making their LP. Although that's probably why it has remained so fresh, vital and different. Ainigma played a raw and powerful kind of hard-edged bluesy rock, fronted by organ and sizzling guitar, sometimes recalling Frumpy, but with a more psychedelic sound. Lyrically Ainigma weren't great, but that doesn't really matter. Often feeling like a more "prog" Necronomicon, with long tracks, extensive instrumentals, and a really gloomy atmosphere, it's one of the better albums of its type, and one that is well worthy of its reputation.
