Short intro
The Forgotten Arm is an album by singer-songwriter Aimee Mann with illustrations by artist Owen Smith. It was released by SuperEgo Records on May 3, 2005. It is a concept album, telling the story of two characters who run off with each other to escape their problems, but end up in more trouble than either of them could have imagined. The album reflects Mann's own boxing in its story and illustrations. The title is derived from a move in which one arm is used to hit the opponent, causing him to forget. The prospect of an Aimee Mann concept album concerning an addicted boxer returning from the Vietnam War isn't necessarily enticing, but after the meandering, adrift Lost in Space, a change of pace of any kind is welcome for the acclaimed, gifted, and increasingly predictable singersongwriter. Mann must have sensed this too, since she not only committed herself to a narrative song cycle, but she cut the record live with a new band under the guidance of producer Joe Henry. For this album, Mann chose to talk about this theme through the trials and tribulations of two characters, delineating their dissolution and resolution linearly, over the course of 12 songs. The story in The Forgotten Arm is girl Caroline meets boxer John at a county fair, boxer and girl go gaga for each other, boxer and girl go on the road, boxer is addicted to drugs, girl cuts boxer loose, boxer wises up to his problem and quits the stuff, boxer and girl ride off into the sunset. Musically, The Forgotten Arm is a down-to-earth version of what folks expect from an Aimee Mann record. Genre: Singer-Songwriter. Or consider a donation 195. Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. The forgotten Arm' is Aimee's 5th solo album and is a concept album, a musical novella : a dozen songs that tell, rather loosely, the story of John and Caroline as they meet, fall in love and road trip across America. Set in the 70s - the record's music reflects this period, sounding in Aimee's own words 'Mott The Hoople meets alt country'. Produced by singer-songwriter Joe Henry, The Forgotten Arm is a departure for Mann in several ways. Joe makes records really fast and he makes them in a very natural way, says MannRelated to Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm
