Four tracks were selected as singles: Familiar, Golden Green, It's Happening Again, and Stretch Your Eyes. Obel launched a European tour at the end of October 2016, followed by a North American tour in February 2017. The title comes from the German concept of the gläserner bürger, the human or glass citizen. Its actually a legal term about the level of privacy the individual has in a state, and in health its become a term about how much we know about a persons body or biology or history if theyre completely made of glass we know everything. Theres an increasing sense in this world that you have to make yourself a bit of glass. Where her relatively austere prior outings relied largely on piano and strings, Citizen of Glass revels in ghostly electronics and voice modulation, even going so far as to bring in a temperamental, late-'20s monophonic synthesizer called a Trautonium. The string arrangements are more ambitious and the composition style is a bit more opaque, but the ten-track set is unequivocally Obel-esque. Agnes Obel is a wonderful Danish artist who has just released her third album Citizen Of Glass. The problem is that nowhere near enough people have heard of her yet, though this may all be about to change. Agnes' musical career began in 2010 with the release of Philharmonics. The singersongwritercomposer's debut album's combination of simple but ridiculously catchy melodies lead to a warm and embracing album.
