Founded in 1974 by Thione Seck and his brother Mapenda Seck, Raam Daan has risen to become one of the most popular mbalax bands in Senegal rivaled only by Youssou NDour & his Super Etoile de Dakar band. Seck's album Orientation was one of four nominated for BBC Radio 3's World Music Album of the Year in 2006.
